more kibune

kibune is in the mountains to the north of kyoto. the perfect place to cool off as the summer heats up. restaurants perched on platforms over the river have natural air conditioning. see earlier post to view our somen catching expertise.

still more fushimi inari

i just absolutely love the fushimi inari shrine. here are some more images. i was especially interested in the workmen repairing the tori gates. note the cool ladder the painter is using [he's painting the names of the parishioner who donated the gate] and the way the other worker is standing on a pole that is merely tied onto the gate. wow.

Street finds #7

Found:
Pilgrim at the train station, parasols, mouse on wooden daikoku sculpture, folk masks, vegetable stand.

Fushimi inspired fabric

I adore this reissued vintage fabric. It is inspired by fushimi inari shrine. It's from the shop eirakuya...they are reissuing lots of amazing vintage fabrics from their collections, and making beautiful new fabric as well. Note the way it's being worn by the hipster at the toji flea market.
